We focused on offering practical and interesting information for anyone planning a trip to the Costa del Sol. Offering suggestions and tips based on our experiences of places, museums, restaurants and more.

Leading Spanish bank forecasts strong 2017 for property market

BBVA Research, the analytical arm of the Spain-based global bank, is forecasting a 6.5% increase in property transactions across Spain in 2017, allied to average price increases of more than 3.5%.

This positive outlook comes at a time of relative uncertainty in Spain, not least the ongoing issue of just who will be governing the country come 2017, and the as-yet-unresolved Brexit conundrum…

Málaga’s provincial government plans to repopulate countryside which has been devastated by fire by dropping plant seeds from aircrafts. The project is part of a reforestation programme which includes planting mature trees and shrubs, and which has a five-year €100 million budget. Estepona town hall has announced a reduction in the IBI property tax rate for 2017, marking the sixth consecutive annual cut, which will drop to 0.688% from the current 0.695%. Since 2012 the IBI rate has been reduced by a cumulative 13% to 16%, depending on the type of property, with the average bill next year estimated at €588.

A bogus plastic surgeon who operated from a Marbella clinic has been sentenced to one year and seven months in jail by Málaga’s provincial court for performing as a surgeon whilst unqualified, and causing injuries to a patient on whom he performed a breast reduction in 2006. The surgeon, who had provided false certificates, must also pay compensation of €36,200 to the woman. The court absolved him from a charge of document forgery.
